Hi there! I'm Rachel and I'm 18 years old. I just started university for Games Concept Design and I'd love to work for Dreamworks! I'm new to the forum and I'd just like to show off some of my college and uni sketches as well as some personal stuff to get started!

Sorry for the long post! But I draw quite a lot, and alot of what you see here was drawn in a couple of weeks. Let me know what you think?? I'd really love to become a concept artist for gaming companies or animated movie companies (Dreamworks omg).

Wow! Just keep going, and I bet you will get there, into Dreamworks!

Phew, why there is no universities like yours in my country... May I ask you where are you from?

Well, there are loads of universities here, but there are little for games concept design. I'm lucky this one wasn't that far away XD
If you're ever passionate enough, do you think you would be able to move to another country in order to study an art related topic?

I can understand. It took alot of work for me to get into this university, and I've been trying desperately in the short time I've been drawing to get as good as I can to get a job in the games/films industry. And don't worry, all the best things are well worth working for, especially if you put your mind to it.

Yes, you're right. So for now I'll try to learn by myself as much as I can, and we'll see what's gonna happen... Anyway, good luck, and Im waiting for more works! ;)

Awesome! I wish you the best of luck. And believe me, although it is a lot of hard work learning by yourself, it's totally worth it. I taught myself too!

Holy shet, you've got some amazing stuff here.
I like both pencil and digital things, while my pencil sketches are kinda embarassing to post lol.

Thank you very much! And hey I don't see why they could be embarrassing. You shouldn't be comparing yourself to others in the first place XD As long as you strive to be better than yourself, you should be fine! And you should definitely post them. That way you can get useful constructive criticism you may not necessarily get anywhere else. After all, this site is purely about getting better and improving ^w^

Yeah, I keep telling that to myself and yet it's pretty hard to do :) But well, it's just whining. Gotta go drawing!

A year past May!
I'm doing a lot of freelance work at the minute.

If you get the opportunity to do work experience - do it!
And begin writing your dissertation in the summer. Seriously.

Wow, so you only finished this year? Blimey. Well, I have worked for a couple of indie games before, so I have a little experience I guess XD
Oh, I'll definitely begin writing that as soon as possible @-@

Here are some more pieces from my Tumblr and deviantART focusing on light:

I actually haven't had good equipment until recently, so mostly all I did over the summer were portraits. The computer I was using just wouldn't work with sizes bigger than 1000 pixels. But I'm working on a few full body paintings again now that I have a new computer!

I'd really love to delve more into light and colour. I might do some studies of Albert Bierdstadt or Noah Bradley. I might do some in a couple of days and then post them here. What do you think?

Yeah that sounds good, I don't mind telling you what I think when you post them, the way I learn of colour is just experiment with them, do paintings where you use colours that you wouldn't normally use, pretty much go crazy and do some painting of a scenery for example but mix the colours up a bit and see what colours work.
Good luck ;3
