Ohai! uhh, i'm new here so i guess i should start a sketchbook?
I have a DeviantArt which You can see all of my older works in but i'm only going to be putting only newer work here.
http://meggasweetsmiles.deviantart.com

So theres this lizard thingy which i drew last weekend after watching the super stream on Sycras youtube really found it made the creative juices going.
Untitled-2.jpg

Decided to play around with Seages style use lots of pretty colours.
Abandoned it as it felt really flat but i liked the colours and the patterns.
Untitled-3.jpg

Went and drew with a bunch of guys on Googlehangout and did this little thing.
The trial of Photoshop i had ran out so i had to use Flash to draw this xD
It gave the picture a different feel to it. I like it.

WIP

I need to make art more regularly. Hopefully being surrounded by lots of other artists would help.
I am quite competitive and seeing someone else do well makes me want to do better.
I am excited to meet all of you out there! :D

Constructive criticism is always welcome!

You've got some nice stuff! I like the lighting and colors on the first one, and your WIP looks good. I looked at your DeviantArt and you have some really good stuff on there, "By The Lake", "Blood tree", and "Chair of Judgement" are awesome!

Ok so i am working on this but i'm stuck with what to do for the hair. Everything i do seems to clash with the existing patterns and composition.

As it is, its got a sort of triangle composition. I'm thinking of changing the angle of the sword/thing.
The leg area is looking too busy and making the line of the arm extend in the same direction would enhance the triangle shape.
I also want to change the object she is holding. Initially i wanted it to be a staff so i might do that.

Spoiler: show
Suggestions would be appreciated
Worrior girl.jpg

[EDIT]
I made some quick adjustments. The hair is nicer short but it still feels like it could be improved some

Changing the position of the sword helps the triangle composition but adding a staff in her other hand might be a bit more tricky due to its length.
Anyway hope you finish it, its looking good so far. :)

So i've been working on this piece some more. It's kinda tricky, so many light sources from unconventional angles with no reference >.<
adding the blue really brought this piece out. It also made the shading somewhat easier to render.
aaaaand... something strange happened to the face. o_o
It looks a bit squished :/

I'm just going to work on something new now, i could tweak it forever :/

@once again
It's either or in the same hand. not going to give a mage a sword xD
If anything, a dagger would be better suited.

@brianhermelijn
Hey, thanks for stopping by.

Just having some fun here. Unrealistic body proportions and whatnot.

When i drew the pose i was thinking of 'funky' but i lost it when i started on the clothes. Might look at some ref and make some alt clothing of 70s inspired stuff.

I like the design i arrived at but it wasn't the initial feel of the piece so i tried to get closer to what it was supposed to be.
These are not it either. I should try adding more colours and make sure it has a punk feel to it

WIP
Don't know how i managed to do this difficult pose...
well...
she is purple but i guess the reds are in the right places to make her look like flesh.
I intend to add lots of floral decorations and tweak some things tomorrow.

Critiques welcome! (while i'm still working on it) ^-^

Nice work :) I like how you stylise but maybe you should get some more steadiness to your lines and do anatomy studies. It will help you with the stylisation as well :)

Thanks boris

@ kuronuma
thanks :) yeah i probably should go to a few life drawing classes, i'm so rusty.
maybe even attempt to learn muscle groups too :/

Image

another spurt of inspiration, going to try and decorate the clothing and make it look royal/expensive and pretty ('tis the main goal)
i noticed that i should have probably brought her right leg foreword and twisted her hips to match the energy of the upper body but i will do that next time.
not too sure what i should put in the focal point between the face and the top hand. probably will expand the canvas and make some space in the top right

So, some stuff happened to me in my personal life which made it almost impossible to draw. I've now started again however I'm finding it difficult as my student contract with adobe has finished, i don't want to pay for photoshop. If anyone knows any good free drawing software for a Mac, it would be greatly appreciated!

While i wait to sort this out, I'm letting go in traditional mediums. I decided to use reference for this piece and oh gheeez, it would have been really ugly if i didn't. Especially when i haven't been drawing for a long time. Your skills get rusty. annywhoo... I wasn't a big fan of reference before but i'm starting to see the benefit of it.

Please enjoy my eye gazing into your soul

Nice looking sketchbook! I especially like the dragon you did. It looks fierce! I also like your 3-D renderings too. Nice and slick. Keep up the great work!
