Hello! I'm Apeiron. I uh...I draw dudes. Like that's it. That's all I do.
The human body is a really complex machine, you see. It's sorta a hard thing to draw.
And well it's essential. Stories are all about people. Even if they aren't 'people' in name.
Being able to draw them, then, is pretty central. In my eye, at least. I'm uh still not good at drawing people tho but well whatever.
Anyway here's a big dump of sketches from my sketchbook. The pages are too large to scan properly, so I've had to take pictures and 'scrapbook' them together.

Hey. I'm Apeiron. I'm 19 and have been drawing for about four years(since my freshman year of high school). I think that's considered slightly late? Dunno.

Anyway as I continued to draw more and more throughout high school I realized that I wasn't really that creative. There wasn't any major story I wanted to tell or anything I just wanted to improve how I drew. And the thing about drawing in this hobbyist format without a story in mind is you end up being very focused on the one specific part of art you like to do.
The only thing I ever did was draw dudes in my note margins. So here I am.

Anyway I still don't have any big plans I'm just going to post here whenever and hopefully improve my artwork with time. Maybe I'll get lucky and get picked up for big commission work in the far future? I'm not holding my breath.

Oh crap right I should talk a little about my art...

I'm left handed. I use a cheap #2 Bic mechanical pencil. The kinds you can pick up anywhere. I've had mine since high school.

I sketch on an 11 x 14 inch Strathmore. I really really like drawing at such a large size but I don't have a large enough scanner to accomodate...

Unless stated otherwise I draw exclusively without reference.
Whenever I need to work on specific aspects of my dudes I'll look up an anatomy reference once then try to iterate through different ways of drawing the aspect until I find one I find pleasing.

All my guidelines are spheres. I have a very round shape language

Unlike a lot of artists who like to minimalize linework I really like to revel in it. So in addition to the primary lines of the figure I also like to render out secondary and tertiary lines. I like lots of detail..

Ok, fine fine. I went ahead and resized these ones so I could attach them. I don't like the look of just links on the page at all. A sketchbook page should be lively looking. Or something.

Here's today's sketches. Really trying to push the dynamic poses here.

If I would make a suggestion about dynamic poses. Arms and legs really make the those poses and if you chop them off the pose kind of suffers, imo. I'd say the pose in the second link in your first post, the one of the dude on one knee, crouching, is very successful in portraying dynamism (this link, the top, right guy).

:/ you're probably right. The chopping of the arms and legs isn't really a stylistic choice arms and legs are just really hard to draw from other angles >.<
But yea I can't expect to improve in those areas if I don't work on the figure in full.

Not gonna lie today's sketches were pretty hard. Arm rendering I do somewhat often but finding a pleasing arrangement of lines for the legs was a pretty difficult challenge as I don't tend to draw them as often.
But because of that effort today's poses are fully limbed! I also doodled some faces in on the side and included them, as well.

Man keeping up a daily sketchbook is hard >.<
Breaking my bad habit of not drawing for weeks and weeks is gonna be tough...
Blegh. Anyway only had time to do one piece today.
This is of my Dark Souls 3 character, Yorin.
I'm roleplaying as a crazy old dude, so of course he's gotta rock the Mound-Maker covenant and tote around a big slab of rusty metal.
Not my best piece by a long shot but hey at least I used some colored pencils( ? )

Had a nice break for the weekend (I actually did draw a bit on friday but nothing I wanted to show) so now I'm back and refreshed.
Haven't done any proper anatomy studies in over a year, so I did a little of that today. Oh I also did a wonky head turnaround but that wasn't the focus so I stuck it in a corner.
There's nothing quite as satisfying as drawing way, way too many lines.

Been a while again. Decided not to worry too much about posting every day. It's just going to fill this topic with excuses when I don't keep my promise.
I really do admire Sycra for being able to draw every day though. That takes a lot of dedication @.@

Two page things today. One is a little process thing I did for a friend to explain how I do motion (poorly), and one is the regular buncha doods jammed into a page.

Wow, that anatomy looks just pretty haha. Nice work, nice dudes, I can see you put a lot of effort, especially the later ones with arms.

Thank you very much! Haha I thought my anatomy was kinda bad actually ^_^; too many lines, not enough meaningful lines...
And yeah I'm trying my best! I should maybe do some more perspective tho I've played with the figure a bunch but not the camera at all ;P

Did a little work today. Not much worth showing ;P but I did want to show off a little of my older stuff. Outside of dudes I do a little dabbling in clothing design concepts. Here's a couple outfits I did a while ago. Not in any particular order, but the three on the left are a little older than the three on the right. The new ones aren't scanned in as well because my new sketchbook is so. Damn. Big. >:o

Today's was a rough one. One of those days where you really want to draw, but nothing seems to come out right... Reverted back to my comfort zone a bit, sorry about that >.< I promise I won't cut off as many limbs in the next one!
Oh I drew a girl this time as well for a change. Yeah they always turn out pretty masculine...
I drew makeup this time but sometimes I don't so I included my Eyebrow Shape Gender Key(tm). Basically if I draw a square eyebrow my intent was to draw a male character. If the eyebrow is triangular my intent was to draw a female character.

i actually really like your art honestly. it reminds me of my friend's, maybe with how its drawn. tbh your girl actually looks feminine to me, but you might be getting the masculine vibes from the ears and jaw area. the top of the ear should be in the line with the brows, and the bottom should line with the tip of the nose. i think fixing the ear would dramatically improve her look! i really like how you drew her though anyways, she looks badass

And thanks for saying that, I do try to give them some air of femininity.
Trust me tho that eyebrow guide is going to come in handy I don't change how I draw much for either gender.

Speaking of which I drew some girls today. A completely themed sketchbook entry! Went with opposite extremes of the weight and body type scale here as well. One is short and underweight, with short pale-blonde curly hair. The other strong and tall, with long dark straight hair. neither look like girls
Oh also in the bottom right is Tesseract, one of my recurring sketchbook characters, giving a super smug expression.

Aggghhh I always end up updating this page right before I have to go to bed >.<
Too many sketchbooks to see... I've never been so motivated to draw before the atmosphere at this forum is something else man...

Anyway grils today. Same two from yesterday's page. I'm too stubborn to change how I draw for the different genders so I'm just gonna keep grinding away at it until I make a compromise. Until then just remember the golden rule if I draw square eyebrows I tried to draw a guy. Triangular means I attemped a girl.

Ok no girls today sorry I'm super sleepy and I didn't even get a chance to draw until late.

Nice easy drawing day today. Kicked back and did some faces. Easy stuff. Gotta keep working on drawing girls in my style.

Back from another break. Good thing I came back when I did I was starting to forget how I draw dudes ^.^;
My lines will be less shaky once I get more confident in my figures again.

Hey I splashed a bit of color! It's just a little flat splotch set to overlay. I won't be able to do full blown digital stuff until I get a better computer, but little stuff like this is nice once in a while

It seems that you know the details quite right, but I would suggest you to spend more time on learning the ovearll shape of human body.
Drawing from reference is really helpful.

Yeah I really do need to do more reference stuff. The accuracy of my figures is really starting to suffer because I do so little...
Hehe I've actually seen that bean video before. Proko's pretty good about teaching the figure. My beans are always super wonky I need to do a whole bunch more studies. They're just becoming two big spheres with a line of action drawn through them ;P

O hey second page status confirmed ! I'll do something nice to kick it off later tonight after I get off work.

2nd page! Here's the proper celebration. Whenever I reach a new page I've decided to do something a little extra to all my future drawings to spice it up. It's stuff I need to do but usually neglect so doing tiers like this may help give me an extra kick.

So for today's tier I've decided to do color work for all future sketches. It'll still be simple single color stuff until I have a better digital setup.
I really liked my colored sketch from the other day. It popped out super nicely. So why not do it a lot more?

Now for today's page. Ugh. I wished I had a stronger start today tbh. Kozlik suggested I do more stuff from reference, so I tried.
I really tried.
